Your Next At Bat

I posted a video on Twitter on Saturday of our 7 year-old Isaiah getting his first hit of the season. We’ve had 2 scrimmages, 5 practices, 3 games, and he had never been on base. He had hit the ball one time and was thrown out at first. Other than that, he had not made contact with the ball. 11 straight strikeouts. But Saturday was different. Saturday, he stepped into the batters box and something clicked. He got his first hit…I am not sure who was more excited, me or him? You can watch the low-fi video below.

This video reminds me that no matter how many times I strike out in life, my Heavenly Father cheers for me. He longs to see me get a hit, round the bases and head for home.

Maybe you’ve been striking out in life recently…striking out spiritually, or financially, or as a parent, in your marriage, or at your job. Can I encourage you today? Don’t give up, because God is preparing you for your NEXT AT BAT.

After the game, one game ball was given out…and Isaiah was the proud recipient. Trisha I were proud too!

First, that's awesome about Isaiah. You're so blessed to be able to do things like take your son to play ball.

I'll be honest. I've struck out so much I feel like the coach has me on the bench. I know I'm still on the team but it's not that much fun.

That is the great thing about God…His opinion of us never changes…all that changes are the lies we believe about ourselves. I'd encourage you to live out what God already says about you and see if you begin to have more fun.

Awesome video…been there, done that. He has a pretty good stance and swing…it will come.

Lately, i haven't been able to even get to the ball field, let alone step up to the plate and wiff….good thoughts. Thanks.

You can't even strike out if you don't come to the ball field. Your game isn't over yet! God still has so much in store for you Chuck!

I can remember when Josh & Nate got their first hits two. It was awesome! I'm sure they were happy too. One moment when I didn't think I could contain my excitement is when Josh in his 5th grade game was fouled and took his first shots ever from the free throw line. I was so nervous, but he stepped right up and swished them both. I don't remember anything that happened after that!

You are absolutely. How much more does our Father cheer us on!

So cool to see this video! What a great day for Isaiah! I appreciate the analogy about how our Father cheers for us to get a hit. I also think about how you've talked about being there each week and how he went through the strikeouts each time. I also love thinking about the analogy that no matter how many times we strike out, our Father's always there, even when we're struggling. He's encouraging us and helping us along the way. Definitely a post I needed today!

hearing you cheer your son on the way you did was such a great (and needed) example of how God cheers for me. even though i focus more on my mistakes than my successes, God doesn't. it's easy to forget that.
