Loneliness is a Choice Not Your Reality
Aug 29, 2022I’ve gone through different seasons of loneliness throughout my life. I’m sure you have too. There are times that we can feel lonely, even in a room full of people.
As I look through out Scripture, one of God’s greatest desires is that we not be alone. In fact, God’s presence is one of the major themes of the entire Bible: I AM with you.
- Abraham-I am with you.
- Isaac-I will be with you.
- Jacob-I will be with you.
- Moses-I am with you. I will be with you.
- Joshua-I will be with you. I will go before you. I will come after you. I am with you. I will be with you.
- Gideon-Be strong. I will be with you.
- David-I am with you.
- Jeroboam-I will be with you.
- Isaiah-When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.
- Jeremiah-Don’t be afraid of the people-I will be with you.
- Haggai-Be strong, I am with you.
In the Old Testament, there was a cloud by day, a pillar of fire by night. There was his Presence in the Tabernacle. There was the Ark of the Covenant that housed his Presence. God wanted his people to feel his presence.
God wanted us to get this. To live in this. To allow his presence be known and felt and to change the way we lived. So God not only chose to tell His people that he would be with them; He not only gave them physical representations of His Presence; He gave His son to embody his presence.
One of the names that Jesus is given…Emmanuel…God WITH us.
But He goes beyond that.
God has chosen to make known the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.—Col 1:27
This passage goes beyond God being with us. It goes beyond Jesus being with us. It says that there is something amazing that has taken place through the power of the Holy Spirit. God is not just with you, Christ is IN you.
You are never alone. It is impossible for God to ever leave you. It is impossible for you to ever be a part from Christ. You are never alone. Loneliness is a lie we believe it is never our reality.
A lie believed as though it were truth, carries the power of truth in our life. Believing you are alone; believing no one cares; believing no one is there gives power to a lie that isn’t true. It allows the lie of loneliness to live as truth in your life. So you can live everyday of your life as a Christ-follower with Christ in you…and yet choose loneliness.
But loneliness isn’t your reality. God is with you. More importantly, Christ is IN you. You are never alone.
