Together We Fight
Aug 29, 2022There is an amazing story in Exodus 17 about a battle that raged between the Nation of Israel and the Amalekites. What is so cool to me about the story is that the Israelites weren’t guaranteed victory. They had the tools to win the battle. They had God’s power to win the battle. But there was one condition to winning…just one.
As long as Moses held up the staff in his hand, the Israelites had the advantage. But whenever he dropped his hand, the Amalekites gained the advantage. 12 Moses’ arms soon became so tired he could no longer hold them up. So Aaron and Hur found a stone for him to sit on. Then they stood on each side of Moses, holding up his hands. So his hands held steady until sunset. 13 As a result, Joshua overwhelmed the army of Amalek in battle. Exodus 17:11-13
Moses had to hold up his staff. Moses had to not drop his hands. As long as he did that, they win. But if he got tired, distracted or fatigued and lowered his hands, the battle would be lost.
Moses did get tired. Moses did fatigue. But what happened to Moses is a beautiful picture of what we’ve seen in our lives and ministry over the last month: Moses wasn’t alone. Aaron stood on one side, Hur stood on another and they held his hands steady till sunset. The battle was won.
A little over a month ago, we released our book, Beyond Ordinary: When a Good Marriage Just Isn’t Good Enough. But the truth is, we didn’t release a book, we entered a battle. We are in a battle against stale love, broken promises, unrealized potential, ordinary marriages and ultimately the divorce rate. We want our book to be a weapon couples use to fight against marriage as usual.
What we’ve come to know is that you are Aaron and Hur for us. You are holding us up in prayer. You are encouraging us. You are fighting with us in the valley. You are believing with us that a good marriage doesn’t have to be good enough. You are buying our book. You are sharing our book. You are expanding our vision.
We just want to say thank you. By God’s amazing grace Beyond Ordinary is moving into hearts and homes across the world and bringing hope and redemption and the love and story of Jesus with it.
We received word this week that after just a month, Beyond Ordinary will go into a second printing.
Thank you for fighting with us. Thank you for believing in this message. Thank you for launching this movement. We move forward with you.
Together we fight. In Christ, the victory is ours.
